April 5, 2010

Well, this week we had interviews on Tuesday. They went really well! I love my mission president and his wife!!! They are so amazing!

We had very little luck the first part of the week with finding new investigators, but on Thursday, we got a call from the Spanish Elders. They told us that they had two names for us. They said one was named Carla and she is really interested and that she seemed like a golden. The second one was named Leslie. They said that Leslie didn't seem too interested, but she was nice and they felt like they were led to her. On Friday, we went to see them both. Carla answered her door and said that she had just gotten called into work, so she re-scheduled for us to come back today. We then went to Leslie, expecting her to be pretty distant. She opened the door and invited us right in! She's probably about 50 or 60, she's black, and she has no teeth. She is the cutest woman though! We sat and talked with her for about an hour and a half. She told us all about all of the trials she's had to go through in her life (and she's had A LOT!), but she has an amazingly eternal perspective. She knows that through the Savior she can do all things and that He loves her very much! As we were leaving, she put together some cool potted plants for each of us. They are called Irish Clovers or something. They have 4 leaves and at night, they close up tight, but in the morning they open up really wide! They are so cute! We have another appointment with her tonight!

We got to watch Conference at the Institute building on Saturday and Sunday. In between sessions yesterday, this woman (Sister Campbell) from our family ward came running into the Institute. She said that she had to tell us what had just happened. As she was getting ready to watch the 1st Session on Sunday, there was a knock at her door. She answered it and there was this girl standing there with 2 dogs. The girl said, "This is going to sound odd, but I feel like I was drawn to your house. The dogs were even drawn to your house..." Sister Campbell then let the girl in and invited her to watch Conference and eat breakfast with them. The girl got to watch President Uchtdorf's talk and then Sister Campbell answered the questions that she had about the organization of the church. The girl (Erika) told Sister Campbell that she had started on a spiritual journey about a month ago and was trying to find a church that fit. As they talked more, they realized that Erika knew Sister Campbell's son, but have never been to their house before. Sister Campbell took down Erika's information and hopefully we'll be meeting with her this week.

Sister Cutler and I were talking about what a miracle that was to begin to witness. Sister Cutler said a very profound thing. She said that there are tons of things in this world that can create doubt in us if we let them, but when we turn our hearts to the Lord, he will give us many mighty miracles that will blow the doubts completely out of the water! If there is anything I've learned so far, it is by far this!

I loved watching Conference! I loved how much it was based around the worth of woman and how important it is to teach our children! I'm so happy that I've been blessed with amazing parents who haven't been afraid to teach me and to help me make choices, so that I can make my own now. An attitude that is very strong here in Oregon is that parents won't give their children any sort of belief foundation to build on, because they're so afraid that they're taking away the child's choice, but really what ends up happening is that the child becomes so open-minded that they're closed-minded. I thank my Heavenly Father that I had parents who showed me their beliefs and taught me to choose them until I could choose for myself. I never once felt like I lost my Agency in fact I was given my agency by being taught! Sorry if that makes no sense! I know what I'm feeling, but I can't express it in words very well!

On Friday, we were tracting and we ended up in this Hippie neighborhood! It was so fun! We took lots of pictures, because some of the houses were so outrageous! I couldn't believe people actually lived in them! We didn't really get to talk to anyone, but we did almost get attacked by a German Shepherd! Lol I freaked out, but Sister Cutler just said "Calm Down!" hahahaha! It was pretty funny!

I love Oregon so much! I miss Utah A LOT! But I can't even imagine leaving Oregon, it's kind of a weird feeling! It's rained quite a bit here, but I finally got some boots that work a lot better in the rain, so it's bearable now! :)

Next Monday, we're going to Winston, Oregon to go to a Wild-Animal Safari! It's going to be so fun! Then, the next week, we going to the Coast!!!!!!! I'm so excited for this! We got a member to drive us there for Sister Toomey's last Preparation Day. On one Preparation Day, we're going to get one of the Beaver's football players that's in our ward to take us on a tour of the Reser Stadium! I'm really excited for that too!

Things are going well here! Just taking it a day at a time. Sister Cutler said it best on like my first day here. She said "The days feel like weeks and the weeks feel like days." It's so true! I can't believe I've been out almost 2 months! It's gone so fast! I've been in Oregon for 4 weeks now and that seems crazy!

I love you all and thank you for all of your letters, support, prayers and love!
Love,
Sister Losee
