HEY EVERYONE!!!!! I'M IN OREGON!!!!!!!
My address is: 1343 S.W. E AVE, #103
and yes I can receive mail there. The office should be forwarding my mail to me too. If you send packages, be sure to use priority mail or first class (just through the USPS, because any other carrier can't be forwarded to me. Also, just send packages to the mission home address that was provided before :) )
It's really good here! It's absolutely beautiful! Everything is so green, but the funny thing is that it isn't green because of leaves, everything is just covered in moss! It's rained 3 of the 7 days I've been here, but I've loved every minute of it!
We've knocked on a lot of doors and a lot of people have just shut the door in our faces or said not very nice things, but it's gotten a little less discouraging. The first couple of days, I was ready to just throw in the towel, because I couldn't figure out why I am even here. But, as always, the Lord shows tender mercies in all things and he blessed me.
We cover a singles ward and a family ward here in Corvallis. It's where Oregon State University is, so we have a pretty fun singles ward. The members are AWESOME about giving us referrals. We have 5 investigators right now. One girl's name is Leki. She's getting baptized on Saturday!!!! She's such a solid girl! Her testimony is so firm. Her Grandpa is a pastor in Hawaii and is not happy she's joining another church, but she's going through with it anyway. We have another investigator named Staci. She has committed to baptism, but wants to speak with her family next week when she goes home for Spring Break. We're hoping to set an exact date for Easter Saturday, before she goes home, so she can show her parents that she's serious. And then we'll just pray that she's strengthened. Our other investigators aren't as far along as these two, but they're still awesome. Their names are Desiree, Bethany and Brittany.
The members are so awesome here! They feed us every night! We have this way cute old couple; their names are Grandma and Grandpa Friar. They are so sweet! We had dinner last night with Sister Cook! She was an absolute sweetheart! When we go to their houses it's almost like being home! The Spirit is so strong.
I don't know if President Macdonald told you, but I'm in a trio. My trainer's name is Sister Toomey. She's so awesome! She's 22 (almost 23). She'll be going home to Centerville, Utah after this transfer. :( My other companion is Sister Cutler. She's way awesome too! She's 25. She'll be my follow-up trainer after Sister Toomey leaves and then she will leave after next transfer to go home to Melba, Idaho. She grew up in Sandy, Utah until she was 16, then she moved to Idaho. I love them both! We laugh all of the time it seems! It's really great! We really seem to get along pretty well.
We had a really weird experience yesterday while we were tracting. We knocked on this lady's door. She said she was the pastor of her church, but that she had read the Book of Mormon and knew it was the word of God, then she told us to have a good day and shut the door. It's was really sad to see that someone could receive that witness and still choose not to act upon it. I just pray that someday she'll be able to realize the importance of it. There are a lot of people around here who are pretty stuck in their ways, but they're still wonderful people. An attitude that I'm seeing a lot of is that people just figure any church is good. If they have a religion, why would it matter if they are in one or the other. It's really a sad, complacent(? I think that's the word) attitude. But that's why we're here. We're finding the ELECT of our Heavenly Father's children and sorting through all of those who aren't to find them.
I love it here so much, but I do miss Utah! I didn't realize how nice it is to live where you don't always assume that the person next to you is a non-member. There's definitely a different spirit around here. Not a bad one, just different from Utah.
Well, I hope everyone is doing well! I miss you all very much! And I love you lots!!! I hope to hear from you soon!!!!
Love,
Sister Holly Noel Losee
